Regional networking, research cooperation and high-tech at your fingertips
On November 20, 2025, Biberach University of Applied Sciences was once again the venue for Start-up Night - the most important networking event for founders, students, companies and people interested in innovation in the region. For the 13th time, creative minds came together here to present fresh ideas, current research projects and promising business models.
A particular focus this year was on biotechnological projects - an area in which Handtmann Anlagentechnik is also actively involved. As part of a research project on the cultivation of mushroom mycelium, a sustainable raw material with great future potential, Handtmann is working closely with Biberach University of Applied Sciences and the University of Hohenheim.
Technology you can touch: Cooperation with the start-up AEyeVis
This collaboration led to contact with the start-up AEyeVis. The young company is developing an innovative technology for continuous, contactless real-time measurement of biomass, in particular mycelia. Using optical sensors and AI-supported data analysis, the growth process in the fermenter can be monitored for the first time without having to take samples or interrupt the process.
This offers exciting prospects for Handtmann: As part of the joint project, our company is providing a new fermenter so that founders Fabian and Pascal Frühwirth can test their system under real conditions.
Handtmann on stage: exchange and insights in the panel discussion
A special highlight of this year's Start-up Night was Ann-Christin Volk's participation in a panel discussion together with representatives from AEyeVis. Exciting topics relating to the start-up scene, the importance of established corporate partners and current research approaches were discussed on stage.
Numerous questions from the moderator and audience provided the opportunity to visibly present Handtmann's commitment in the innovation environment. Afterwards, Ms. Volk was able to talk to many start-ups about their inspiring projects and ideas.
Practical test with added value: advantages for Handtmann
The collaboration offers Handtmann numerous advantages:
- Real-time monitoring of mycelium growth - a big step for process reliability and efficiency.
- No sampling necessary, which reduces the risk of contamination and reduces the workload for the team.
- Early access to future technology, giving Handtmann a valuable knowledge advantage.
Together for innovation and the future
The Start-up Night in Biberach impressively demonstrated how important the exchange between business, research and young companies is. Our partnership with Biberach University of Applied Sciences, the University of Hohenheim and the start-up AEyeVis is an example of successful knowledge transfer - in line with the event motto: "Where ideas meet the future."
We are proud to be part of this regional innovation network and to work together on technologies that shape the future!
